Brynbori Farm

One Planet Development (OPD), Dunvant, Swansea

This exciting One Planet Development (OPD) project aims to transform a disused, overgrown woodland and brownfield site into a productive, organic and free-range egg farm. Koop & Kiln also produce charcoal on-site using responsibly managed trees processed in their own kiln. Future plans include a sustainable home for the farmers, bee hives, orchards, coppice woodland, and a homestead farm garden to support the family.

What is an OPD you may be asking - A One Planet Development (OPD) is a unique planning policy in Wales that allows individuals to live and work sustainably on rural/ agricultural land, even in areas where new housing is typically restricted. Introduced by the Welsh Government in 2011 as part of the One Wales: One Planet initiative, the policy aims to reduce Wales' ecological footprint to a global average of 1.88 hectares per person. There is quite significant requirements asked of people who undertake an OPD project.

This planning policy offers significant potential to address rural housing needs for those committed to sustainable living. It's a valuable opportunity for suitable projects to take root.
